Dues "Policy"

As of July 1, 2009, SKCAS will be implementing a new “dues” policy.

Members are required to contribute at least $5 a year. That breaks down to less than $0.50 a month per person which will add up fast to put some money in our coffers. If you have a spouse, friend or significant other that will be participating often as a “guest,” please consider donating on their behalf as well. If you would like to donate more than $5 per year, your additional donations will be gladly accepted. Dues will be in addition to the individual events where fees are charged. If we all pitch in a little, we can keep SKCAS going.

In addition to helping out with our costs and expenses, requiring members to pay dues will also keep our membership level at an active level- if a member isn't interested in contributing just $5 a year, then they probably aren't interested in contributing their time and energy into making our group a great group!

What will dues cover?
  • Part of each person’s dues will be put towards the Meetup.com monthly fees. You might not realize that organizers pay a monthly fee to Meetup.com for our Groups ($144/year).
  • Part of each person’s dues will cover the cost of a “membership pin" which will give our group an appearance of solidarity on outings and it will identify you to other members during outings.
  • The remainder of the dues will help cover things like printing documents, making copies, etc.
NO compensation is given to Organizers, Assistant Organizers, etc. All work and time is voluntary.

You will be able to track all funds taken in and spent through the Money section of our Meetup.com site. I will be keeping track of paid members using the custom title function of Meetup.com. A paid member will be marked as a “2009 Member” and a non-paid member will have no designation.

I spend a lot of time and energy organizing SKCAS, not to mention money out of my own pocket, so I hope you won’t think it unreasonable that I’m asking members to help cover the costs. If you have a financial hardship, I am more than willing to swap your assistance for the costs of the dues. I may have you research events or venues, send emails or make phone calls, or something else creative. ;) Please email me privately to make arrangements for this. You would be marked as a “2009 Member” once you have completed the tasks I have for you.

Failure to pay dues will compromise a member's membership.
Contributions may be paid via Amazon through Meetup.com, or in the alternative through Paypal. I would prefer not to accept cash or checks, but if that’s your only option, please contact me and we can work out the details. Amazon and Paypal are the preferred methods of donation because they allow the tracking of what members have paid. This tracking will make it much easier to monitor the status of payments.

As all contributions are donations, I will not be offering refunds as a general rule. However, if you are not happy with your experience in SKCAS, I may review refunds on a case-by-case basis.
