Who We Are
The mission of the South King County Amateur Shutterbugs Meetup Group (SCKAS) is to provide its members with opportunities to increase photographic skills through meetings, workshops and field trips in a friendly and informal setting. SKCAS was made what it is today by a diverse group of Puget Sound residents who share an interest in the art of photography. We come from diverse backgrounds and various experience levels, but have one thing in common: a passion for photography. Our members range from rank beginners with point-and-shoot cameras to seasoned professionals with thousands of dollars of equipment. SKCAS members embrace all forms of photography, from the latest in digital techniques, to Polaroids, to pinhole cameras. SKCAS offers members an opportunity to learn more about the craft of writing with light, and to share their individual experiences and knowledge with each other. We do not hold contests or engage in competitions. Instead, we all learn from each other, and most of all, we all have fun!
Who Should Join
You must have an interest in photography; that is the only qualification for membership. From complete beginner to seasoned pro; from point and shoot cameras to fancy DSLR and medium format cameras, there’s literally something for everyone at SKCAS. Membership in SKCAS is open to everyone. We have a great group, and many wonderful and friendly members. Your photography will benefit from your membership, and so will ours! Please consider joining us. You are also invited and welcome to attend one of our Meet n Greets to “try us on for size.” Everybody is welcome.
And Who Shouldn’t
While everybody is welcome, this group may not be for everybody. If you don't like laughing, learning, socializing and pushing yourself then this group might not be for you. SKCAS does not tolerate or condone harassment in any form including racial intolerance, unwelcome advances, verbal abuse, sexual harassment, etc. We do not support or represent any political causes or religious causes. Please notify the organizer if you feel that you are being harassed so that appropriate steps may be taken. SKCAS is NOT a singles club. If you are looking for a date, we strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
What We Do
SKCAS Members learn through workshops, field trips, and by sharing their experiences with each other.
Where We Meet
Field trips can take place anywhere in the Puget Sound region- and sometimes even further away. Meet n Greets are usually held at a local King County library (Fairwood and Kent Libraries are our current favorites).
When We Meet
We are an active group, and we typically have at least two regular Meetups a month, a field trip and a Meet n Greet. Workshops are usually held during the Meet n Greet meeting. Most of our activities occur over weekends, but we may add additional weeknight events in the future.
Why Join Meetup
Joining a Meetup Group is not only a great way for beginners to get introduced to photography, but it’s also a great way of networking for pros. As a Meetup member, you’ll benefit from the experience and support of a group, not to mention the motivation! Meetup has proven to be a fantastic way to meet new people who share similar interests, and this Meetup Group is no exception.
